In Morocco, I joined nearly one hundred students on an adventure across the High-Atlas Mountains of North Africa, through sun-baked rock and lush green palm groves on a remarkable journey that few ever get to experience. We spent a moonless night under the stars in Nomad camp after trekking though the Sahara Desert via Berber led camel. After making camp we clamored up the dunes to witness the setting sun, followed by the stars and the Milky Way. At times, drums were played around the fire and at times we were silenced by the desert that surrounded us. In that moment, Facebook did not exist, there was no television, no internet, responsibility and worry were long forgotten. Everyone was fully present in the powerful beauty of nature. Some slept under the stars near the campfire and others stayed up in the cold desert air to watch the sunrise. There are experience in life that remain with you and this was one of them. If you ever have the opportunity to survey the desert stars I can guarantee it will be an experience not easily forgotten.
