Nick and Jessica’s Vintage Farm Wedding

City: Cottage Grove, MN Venue:

Nick and Jessica on their special day at Hope Glen Farm.

While working together in college, Nick and Jessica met and formed a fast friendship. A year and a half ago, they became a couple and have been happy ever since. Nick is a commercial pilot, and Jessica is a nurse. This perfect pair, both fans of adventure and travel, had a vintage aviation-themed wedding complete with airplane cufflinks, and a stunning wedding cake encased in a world map.

This Labor Day wedding took place at Hope Glen Farm, a charming place including free roaming chickens, a picturesque “Kissing Tree,” and a beautiful red barn. Nick and Jessica requested an unplugged wedding and encouraged everyone to put their cell phones down and enjoy the beauty of the present moment for the duration of the ceremony. There were many superb photo opportunities at this farm, and the wedding party was a fun bunch of individuals to work with. As for the ceremony itself, it was an incredible testament to love, and the sun came out half way through to shine brightly on the faces of this happy couple. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding, and the gorgeous experience offered at Hope Glen Farm was second to none.

The reception took place at Hope Glen Farm as well, where the couple enjoyed a full blown pig roast by This Little Piggy Catering, heartfelt speeches, and stunning sparkler photos to end the night. Nick and Jessica also enjoyed the perfect ending to their extraordinary day, an overnight stay in the brand new bridal suite treehouse. Overall, it was a beautiful day to commemorate the love of Nick and Jessica and celebrate their new life together.

Meg and Peter’s Destination Wedding in Grand Marais

City: Grand Marais, MN Venue: ,

Portrait of the bride and groom on the Hovland Dock overlooking Lake Superior.

Meg and Peter met while working together at Minnesota Public Radio. Meg, an editor, and Peter, a reporter, spent more than a year having an almost weekly traditional breakfast with a couple of friends. When they started dating, after an evening of lamb dinner, a secret office romance was kindled, which was kept under wraps until their beautiful September wedding.

The happy couple snuck off along the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior to enjoy an intimate wedding oasis in Grand Marais, MN. Meg and Peter decided on a small destination wedding for their big love for each other. They took a trip to the small village of Hovland, north of Grand Marais, where they enjoyed a romantic stroll on the Hovland Dock, and successfully evaded the commotion of a large wedding. While shooting photos at the dock, the couple sported matching umbrellas to shield the rain, until the sun burst through the clouds and shone brightly on the couple’s face; it was a beautiful moment.

The wedding party included a total of ten guests and was officiated, in part, by the groom’s father. This lovely destination wedding, described by the couple as a “Delightful weekend away,” took place at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Highway 61 alongside Lake Superior.

Peter proposed to Meg on Artists’ Point in Grand Marais, MN, a beautiful stony beach, which the couple returned to in their wedding photo shoot. This intimate wedding ceremony was a wonder to shoot. The bride herself admitted to being a bit hesitant to be in front of the camera, while her job usually requires her to be behind it. This hint of camera shyness is nowhere to be found in the many glowing bride and groom portraits, where happiness is evident in the smiles of these two newlyweds.

The wedding reception was held at The Crooked Spoon Cafe in Grand Marais, where the couple rented the upper room to host their intimate wedding party. Here, the merriment of the newlywed’s was evident as they enjoyed second to none food, and took part in post-wedding festivities.

Patrick and Haley’s Greysolon Moorish Room Wedding

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Featured photo of the bride and groom.

This wedding at the Greysolon Moorish Room in Duluth was the perfect ending to the first chapter in the story of Patrick and Haley. Their modern fairy-tale began in January of 2014 when they met while working at the Minneapolis Tattoo Convention. Their booths happened to be right next to each other and a friendship quickly formed. That evening, while walking to a local bar for drinks, Patrick saved Haley from falling on the icy sidewalk, and at that moment she knew she had met someone special.

Over the next few months, they kept in touch by phone and text messaging, finding that they had many interests in common with each other. Other relationships had fizzled out, and finally Patrick called to ask Haley for a date. Sparks flew that evening, and soon they were spending every weekend together. Several months later they moved in together, and Haley had officially found her knight in shining tattoos!

Patrick’s proposal added a sweet and creative touch to the tale. At a family Easter egg hunt, he hid a ring in a very special golden egg and had Haley’s mom hide it in the yard among the others. Everyone was told not to touch that egg. When Haley finally went to open it, Patrick yelled “Will you marry me?”, and, of course, she said “Yes!”.

Their romantic wedding at the beautiful Moorish Room was a wonderful time shared with their closest family and friends. Haley was a vision in her gorgeous white gown and glowed with sheer happiness. Patrick wore black and red and was particularly dapper in his top hat and boutonniere of red roses. The unique creativity of the couple was clearly evident in their stylish celebration, and I love how that shows in the photos of their big day.

I had a wonderful time with Haley and Patrick at their wedding. I wish them every happiness as they begin the next chapter in the story of their lives together.

Lake Minnetonka Sailing Engagement Shoot

City: Minnetonka, MN Venue: ,

Mariah and Michael invited me sailing on Lake Minnetonka for their engagement session, and I can’t think of a more perfect way to capture young love. I met Michael while shooting Marcus and Jamie’s Texas wedding, so I was honored when he and Mariah asked me to photograph their wedding too. Both spirits and sails were high on this gorgeous sunny day. Consequently, it was one of the highlights of this incredible summer season.

The couple, who met online, grew up in the same town and even had mutual friends, but their paths didn’t cross for many years. They must have been destined to find each other because three happy years later they are ready to set sail on their grandest adventure yet!

Friends and family are supremely important to both Mariah and Michael. Therefore, when he planned the proposal, Michael made sure to include the people closest to them. They took a walk before heading to one of their favorite restaurants on Lake Minnetonka. Michael dropped to one knee and asked Mariah to spend the rest of her life with him, and she was overjoyed. She was also utterly surprised when she turned around and saw her sisters snapping photos. When they arrived at the restaurant, the people they loved most were waiting to celebrate the news. It was truly a sweet and thoughtful proposal.

Mariah grew up sailing with her family, so shooting their engagement session at The Shorewood Yacht Club was an excellent way to spend the evening. The couple made an extraordinary team as they shared the role of skipper. The love they share was evident in every moment. As the sun began to set we headed back to shore, which made the perfect ending to this spectacular session.

Thank you Michael and Mariah for the great experience! I can’t wait for the wedding!

Tom and Jenny’s Intimate Greysolon Wedding

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Duluth Greysolon Moorish Room Wedding

This intimate Sunday brunch wedding at the Moorish Room in Duluth’s Greysolon Plaza was a day that Tom and Jenny will always remember. While they were acquaintances in school, they had traveled separate paths for many years. Their journeys came together again when they ran into each other at a high school reunion. Sparks flew between them as they realized the very real connection they had, and now they have taken the next step in life together.

The couple was joined by their children, grandchildren, and their closest friends to celebrate this very special day. The beautiful bride walked down the aisle with her father, which was a very sweet and wonderful moment. As Tom and Jenny said their vows and pinky-swore to be true to each other forever, the love in the room was almost overwhelming.

My favorite part of their big day was the time I spent with the newlyweds in Leif Erikson Park. The views of the Aerial Lift Bridge and Lake Superior were simply stunning. The sun shone on the couple as they visited the park bench where Tom proposed to Jenny, and they enjoyed a tender moment alone together before joining their guests for Sunday brunch.

Congratulations to the bride and groom! Here’s to second chances and lasting love.
