Jordan and Ashley’s Brule River Barn Wedding

City: Brule, WI Venue:

Jordan and Ashley met in the first class of their college careers at UW-Eau Claire. It was a film course in which they would watch, discuss, and critique movies at 7:00 AM. One morning before class started, Ashley was discussing the homework assignment with a classmate when the phrase, “Oh golly gee willickers” escaped her mouth. Jordan had, apparently, never heard that phrase been used in actual, real life conversation before. The look of confusion that Jordan gave Ashley that day is still one she receives, eight years later. Still to this day, one of the couple’s favorite pastimes is watching and critiquing movies together.

Jordan proposed on December 23, 2013. The evening was supposed to begin with a trip to a cute, local bistro. However, when the couple arrived, they discovered that it was closed for the holiday season. This small hiccup in the original plan added meaning to the evening because on the couple’s very first date, six years earlier, they had plans to go to an Asian fusion bistro, but it was, again, closed. Therefore, fast forwarding to the evening of the proposal, their relationship had come full circle in a cute, quirky way. After the couple had re-evaluated their options and finished eating at an adorable little supper club, they made their way to the local park, which was decorated from head to toe in Christmas lights. Once they were there, the happy couple walked up to a beautiful gazebo overlooking a duck pond, where Jordan said, “The last six years have been the most amazing years of my life, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you too.” He then pulled out a ring and proposed, and the rest is history.

The wedding took place at Brule River Barn in Brule, WI, which is the premier barn-style wedding venue in northern MN and WI. It was a beautiful day filled with love, happiness, and undertones of the couple’s nerdy interests.

A huge shoutout goes to Northland Special Events for making the day magical, and an equally huge congratulations goes to Jordan and Ashley as they begin the next step on the journey of life. Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day, and best of wishes as you take on life together.

So say we all.

Joel and Lauryn’s Hawk Ridge Engagement

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Engagement couple photo sitting beside running water in fall.

Joel and Lauryn met at a local Duluth “establishment,” which we will leave unnamed for the sake of the couple. When the time for a first date rolled around, Lauryn told her friends that if he took her out to a chain restaurant, he was not going to get a second date. Joel, thankfully, pulled through and passed the test. He took her to Seven West Taphouse, which is now one of the couple’s favorite date spots. They quickly fell for each other, and have been together for over three years. They are both St. Scholastica graduates, and Lauryn works with Joel’s mother at the hospital.

Joel proposed at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, shortly after sunrise. It was a beautiful day filled with the sunshine, lack of sleep, and the biggest festival in the world for balloons. Their engagement session took place at Hawk Ridge in Duluth, MN, on one of the last nice fall days of the season. It was a perfect day celebrating the changing of the season and the love Joel and Lauryn have for each other.

Nick and Kelly’s Engagement Session at Enger Tower

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Engagement couple photo in fall colors.

Nick and Kelly met for the very first time in fourth grade. It was Nick’s first year at a new school, and he ended up in the same fourth-grade classroom as Kelly. Despite going to the same school and the fact that they both knew who the other person was, they didn’t talk to each other much until their junior year of high school.

On one fateful day, Kelly got Nick’s number at a high school speech meet because she believed he would be a fun friend to have. Nick got the wrong idea and thought they were going to be more than that. One day, Kelly asked Nick to hang out on a Wednesday night, but he was busy. That Friday, however, they ended up going out, and it, inevitably, turned into a date, even though Kelly had completely friend-zoned him. Not long after that, the happy couple fell for each other, and they have been together for more than five years.

Nick proposed to Kelly by asking him to meet her at the Newman Center at UMD. He knew that Kelly had been going to the Newman since high school and that it is a very special place to her. When she arrived, he walked her down an aisle created by 400 candles. Right before the altar, Nick got down on one knee and asked Kelly to marry him. She, tears streaming down her face, said yes. In the flurry of the moment, the couple realized that the carpet had caught fire! They quickly blew out three candles that had burned through to the carpet. It was a beautiful, joy-filled moment.

Nick and Kelly’s engagement photo session took place at Enger Tower. It was a gorgeous day complete with a beautiful overlooking view of Duluth, the sun shining brightly, and the changing color of the leaves.

Kent and Sarah’s Fall Colors Engagement

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Duluth engagement photos at the Hartley Nature Center.

Kent proposed at Manny’s Steakhouse, one of the couple’s favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities. He was pretty nervous for most of the meal, which gave Sarah a good idea of what was going on. Kent excused himself before dessert to “use the restroom,” and gave the engagement ring to their waiter. When the waiter came back, he lifted the silver dome, which was supposed to be covering their delectable dessert of banana cream pie, but instead, there was a ring on the plate! Kent then got down on one knee, said he loved Sarah and asked her to marry him. Sarah, of course, said yes. They are getting married on the same day that Sarah’s parents and grandparents also got married. On their wedding day, Sarah’s parents will be married 33 years, and her grandparents will be married 61 years.

The engagement shoot took place at the Hartley Nature Center in Duluth, MN. It was a beautiful time of year to be outside immersed in the fall colors, and it was the perfect day to celebrate the love that Kent and Sarah have for each other.

Rachel and Adam’s Hawk Ridge Engagement Shoot

City: Duluth, MN Venue:

Fall engagement shoot on Hawk Ridge.

Adam and Rachel were initially set up through mutual friends. When the couple discovered each other on social media, the flames of romance were inevitably kindled. Upon meeting for their first date, the couple immediately hit it off and decided to make it official. They have been together for over four years now and will be together for five and a half years by the time they get married.

On Rachel’s twenty-first birthday, Adam proposed a toast for Rachel in front of the couple’s family members. Before she knew it, he was kneeling on the ground next to her on one knee, popping the question. In the flurry of the moment, Adam forgot the speech he had prepared, and all he managed to say was, “Will you marry me?” He proposed with his grandmother’s ring, and according to Rachel, “It was the best birthday ever!”

This fun-loving couple was a blast to work with. The shoot took place at Hawk Ridge and Amity Creek in Duluth, MN, which offered an excellent overview of the city, a myriad of nature shots, and a gorgeous array of fall colors. Rachel and Adam share many similar interests, opinions, and thoughts on life. They were truly made for one another, and this engagement shoot was a beautiful testament to the love they share.
