Has and Janna met at a canoeing class and have been racing competitively ever since. They both love “outdoorsy” things, so the family’s rustic off-grid cabin in Northern Minnesota was ideal for engagement photos. They have everything the north woods has to offer including tall pines, a private lake, and views of Lake Superior from the ridge where Has proposed. I couldn’t imagine a better place to share a long quiet weekend with a loved one.
Sam and Ashley’s Summer Garden Wedding
Sam and Ashley met on Tinder and have been together since the summer of 2015. After a few months of long distance dating, Sam was offered an opportunity in California to join a new music technology startup in the initial stage. Rather than breaking things off with Ashley, he suggested she take a road trip with him to Cali, “just for fun.” Two weeks later, their car was packed and ready to go and after a romantic trip to the grand canyon, they both knew they were going to spend the rest of their lives together.
Their wedding took place at Sam’s parents’ cabin outside of Cloquet, MN. It was a beautiful day celebrating the love these two have for each other making it clear to see that they were always #meanttobeMcKINNEY.

Christie and Scott’s Northwoods Engagement
These two wonderful people met during their senior year of college, and have been together since 2007. Christie says that they met in “the world’s most romantic spot”, a favorite bar of course!
The evening of Scott’s grand proposal didn’t go exactly as he planned it. He made reservations at the restaurant where their first date happened, but missed out because Christie had to work late. Instead, he took her to their favorite pizza place later that evening, and popped the question there. She was completely surprised and was so excited to answer “Yes!”
I really enjoyed spending time with this great couple at their family cabin in the north woods of Wisconsin. The fall leaves were at their peak, and the serene beauty of the lake was an amazing setting for these engagement shots. They were so natural and comfortable together, and that made it easy to capture so many great photos!
Many thanks and congratulations to the lovebirds! I will see you soon for the wedding.
