There was a moment during Nat and Tiff’s engagement shoot that will likely stand as one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had as a wedding photographer. A choir concert happened to be scheduled at Como Pavilion in St. Paul the same evening as our engagement session. We were shooting on the dock at Lake Como, behind the pavilion, and enjoying the background music. It was just another event at the park until Nat pulled Tiff into his arms and the choir started to sing Can You Feel the Love Tonight from Disney’s The Lion King. It was as if the choir knew the exact moment to sing for us at our own private concert. The smile on Tiff’s face grew larger than ever as we all began to fully appreciate the magic of the moment. You never know when life will give you a brief pause from reality, but when it does you had better take a minute to stop and appreciate it.

Kyle and Dani’s Wedding

I distinctly remember meeting Kyle and Dani for the first time at Caribou Coffee on a bitterly cold winter night. Since that night Dani has “liked” every single wedding photo or link I posted on Facebook. It seemed that with every “like” I counted down the days with her. When her wedding day finally arrived it started off quite dreary, but Dani’s attitude couldn’t be brought down even though it would be impossible to have an outdoor ceremony. The Town and Country Club in St Paul moved us inside and the ceremony went off without a hitch. By dinner time the skies had started to clear and the sun began to chip away at the clouds. We made our way back onto the golf course where Kyle first saw Dani in her stunning dress. This time the sun was just starting to drop behind the skyline and everything fell into place. It seems every wedding has a perfect moment captured with a defining image. Over a years worth of anticipation brought us to this moment as Kyle slowly embraced his bride. In that exact second the sun peaked from behind Kyle and formed a perfect silhouette. The day may have started unremarkable but it was finally Dani’s turn to have her day in the sun and she would not be denied.

Matt and Kate’s Engagement

Summer has arrived in Minneapolis and there’s no better place to spend an evening than Loring Park and the Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center. Matt and Kate brought their feisty little pup Louis along for their engagement session and we had a fantastic time. Congrats to you both and I can’t wait until the wedding.

The Earle Brown Heritage Center is the perfect place to get hitched within the borders of the metro while feeling like you are miles from the hustle and bustle of life. I suspect that is why Jon and Courtney selected it for their big day. The center has a courtyard with a charming fountain that is surrounded by historic barns and mature trees. It was in this courtyard where the wind littered the sky with tree pedals as Jon quietly waited for the First Look with his Princess. It was a moment that could have been written for a childhood fairytale expect that you can’t make this stuff up. In the end the same wind also brought rains that forced the outdoor ceremony inside. Moments before Courtney walked down the aisle the ugly weather had one last performance for us. As the doors opened and guests stood, the skies lit up with fury while thunder shook the ballroom, as if Mother Nature herself was announcing the entrance of the bride. If a rainy wedding day is good luck then Jon and Courtney will have more than enough to spare.

Dan and Macy’s Destination Wedding

Eight years and three kids after Dan and Macy first got married it was finally time to have the wedding they had always wanted. The two reaffirmed their commitment to each other against the stunning backdrop of Montego Bay in Jamaica. Their intimate ceremony was the perfect celebration of all the blessings that have been bestowed upon their life and a chance to pause for a brief moment to consider the significance of their relationship

Here’s to Dan and Macy, their three munchkins, and the next eight years.
